What my heart desires

“O God, you are my God; in the morning I seek you…” (Psalm 63:1)In prayer, we express our desire. We utter our deepest needs. We cringe. Painful. We cry. We wait.

“O God, you are my God; in the morning I seek you…” (Psalm 63:1)

In prayer, we express our desire. We utter our deepest needs. We cringe. Painful. We cry. We wait.

In a sense, all our desires are the same. Without a doubt, we are different people with unique lives and very personal emotions. But our desires, those of our friends, and even the desires of our enemies point in the same direction. What our hearts desire is God.

God designed us to desire Him. Every tormenting hunger, every desire to possess, to be possessed, or even to do something to right a wrong shows that deep down in our hearts we long for God. We want to know Him and be known by Him, we want to love Him and be loved by Him.

One day, Jesus met a woman going to get water. She longed for God but didn't know it. Divorced five times and ostracized by the community, she avoided people, preferring to fetch water alone. She tried to avoid a conversation with Jesus with a religious chat (John 4).

But the more He spoke, the more she desired what He had. Soon the woman who went to get water found herself asking for water from Jesus. Who could have guessed that the living water He was talking about was the gift of His own blood by which her life could be redeemed?

This woman did not know that she prayed, but she did. Moving from one husband to another, from one temporary desire to another, she was pleading. She was looking for God.

Pray

Father, our hearts will not rest until we find rest in You (Saint Augustine). Thank you, Lord, for finding us in our own need and filling us with your love, your life. In Jesus, Amen.

Why don't the lord tell me the next step?

“When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for He takes no pleasure in fools.” (Ecclesiastes 5:4)You already know a lot about what God wants you to do with your life. So why haven't you done it yet? God has no obligation to tell you the second step until you have completed the first step. Some of you say, “I want to know God's will in my career/marriage,” and God says, “Let's do the basics first. Are you reading the Bible? Do you participate in a small group? Do you tithe? Do you talk to Me?” You need to do what you already know, then God's will will be revealed in your life.

You already know a lot about what God wants you to do with your life.

So, what do you know you should do that you haven't done yet? What's your next step?

Maybe you've been attending church for more than a year, and need to take the next step toward becoming a church member. You may have prayed about getting baptized but need to put a date on your calendar. Maybe you're looking for some friends for life, and you need to start a small group in your home. Maybe God has told you what gift you have, and you know you must find a way to use it to serve others.

Will you wait until the end of the week or the end of next year without doing what God has told you to do?

What are you waiting for?

Ecclesiastes 5:4 says, “When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools.” Don't hesitate. Do what you know needs to be done now.

Pray like this: “Lord, I need You to guide my life. With faith, I ask God to guide me. Please help me to listen for Your response, so that I am not so busy that I cannot hear Your voice. Father, when I don't understand, please help me to trust and understand that You are the One who has my way. Lord, what is my next step? Please help me do what I know I need to do. Please help me not to be disappointed. Help me not to be afraid, but to trust in You. I pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.”

Why should you hurry to choose ishmael when you can wait for isaac

Never be satisfied with anything less than what God promises to give you.Young ladies, pray to meet a man who will lead you closer to God and not farther away from Him. Choosing the right person will help you both grow more and more in the Lord, not be a distraction that affects your calling or spiritual growth. Pray that your man will pursue intimacy with his Creator before pursuing you. Because he needs to learn that even a relationship with you cannot make him whole if his life does not include Jesus. You don't have to be the half that completes him, because you are complete and in God you are already complete.

Never be satisfied with anything less than what God promises to give you.

Young ladies, pray to meet a man who will lead you closer to God and not farther away from Him.

Pray to meet a man who will keep his distance and protect your chastity and his good testimony, instead of following hormones and emotions. A man of God knows his limitations, purity will always be his top priority not because it is an obligation or a set of rules he needs to follow, but because of his love for God so he will respect you, God's daughter, and respect your body before marriage. He loves you not because of your beautiful face or attractive body but because of the inner beauty that will last a lifetime.

Pray to meet a man who is brave enough to give you clarity before getting intimate, he is sure about you because he is also sure about himself and the status of your relationship. Someone who only texts you when he's bored or lonely is not worthy of you. Such a person will easily leave you just because he "feels" he no longer loves you. The man of God knows that love is not just a feeling but a commitment between two imperfect people. This may sound corny to some, but it's worth it if you're looking for a long-term relationship instead of a short-term one. But then again, why date someone you don't intend to marry? My dear sisters, the more you look down on yourself from one relationship to the next, the more you will lose your worth.

Pray to meet a man who respects his parents, because in the future he will treat your parents the same way and be concerned about the salvation of his family. He won't carry the past burdens from his parents into your new family, so he needs to forgive them too. A family-centered man will be obedient to the authority above him, so you will see whether he honors his parents and obeys God.

Pray to meet a man who will be your companion in sharing His love in this lost world—like Jesus with His Bride. Who desires to disciple the next generation because that is our greatest calling, to love others the same way God loves even when they don't deserve it because God has loved us the same way. A man not only goes to church to worship God on Sunday, but also lives out his faith every day of the week.

In the meantime, prepare yourself to become the woman after God's heart that every godly man seeks, and is attracted to. I know this sounds cliché, but waiting for a husband is never worse than dealing with marital disagreements afterward. You don't need a perfect man, but one who isn't afraid to be broken before God. Brokenness should cause us to repent and commit that we are all sinners in need of a Savior.

You don't have to feel sorry for your youth or that you're "unlucky" when you choose to keep your godly standards. Young girls, never make hasty choices. Give your heart to Jesus, your first love. And, when the time is right and the place is right, He will remind you to open your heart to the right person.
